Hello, Al-Quran! This is a great digital pedagogy question and here are some reasons why these cards are beneficial in any kind of online classroom:
1. The cards represent basic functional classroom vocabulary. Functional classroom vocabulary includes all phrases and tool parts the students need to know so they can effectively attend a class.
2. They foster engagement and encourage participation by providing visual and interactive prompts that make online communication more accessible and less intimidating, especially for ESL learners.
3. They set expectations, teach online classroom etiquette, and also help you with classroom management by visually showing the students how to raise a hand, mute/unmute, or express agreement/disagreement.
4. They support language learning and create visuals for students who might be distracted and in a noisy environment at home by by providing, structured phrases and vocabulary for expressing thoughts, needs, and emotions during online lessons.
5. They teach symbols and icons present in most online tools, developing digital literacy and transferrable skills that would work on Zoom, Skype, Google Meet, or basically any kind of online classroom video tool.
