This short post will share some ideas on how you can use the Halloween spooktacular grammar posters in your classroom or home to practice proper grammar structures!

Don’t we all hate terrible grammar errors we see on the internet every single day? Why not practice grammar in a fan way, celebrate Halloween, and have some exciting roleplay, while also dramatiting and practicing improvisation.
What is the most common grammar mistake in English?
Run-on Sentence or Comma Splice
A run-on sentence is a sentence that joins two independent clauses without punctuation or the appropriate conjunction. A comma splice is similar to a run-on sentence, but it uses a comma to join two clauses that have no appropriate conjunction. Fixing a run-on sentence or a comma splice can be accomplished in one of five different ways. Incorrect sentence: “Rachel is very smart, she began reading when she was three years old.”

How can you use these posters?
Use these posters to start a grammar roleplay. Separate children into Zombies, Monsters, and Goblins. Have them debate what is the correct answer and why. During the debate, make sure they dramatize and stay in the character!
They can do a role-play in the end to present their final conclusions.
Extension activities for the grammar posters
I love to keep the posters all year round, not just on Halloween because the grammar errors on them are indeed ghastly. By putting them on the wall, you are reinforcing correct structures, children will remember your fun activity and there is a chance they will not make terrible grammar mistakes anymore.
- Dramatize the monsters when you are separated into groups;
- Connect it to art class and make DIY costumes from recyclables to get ready for the debate;
- Work on debate techniques;
- Write correct sentences;
- Have each group make exercises for the rest of the class with the grammar errors their group got;
- Have the students explain which example is correct through an engaging role play – make it a competition: if they go out of the character, they lose points!
